Looking for Advice on how to remove slate

I need to remove slate from the entry way of a home I'm buying.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being hardest), how hard is it to remove a slate floor?

Are there any tools that you may recommend? Or provide any experiences that you may have had removing slate.

Ray

What do you intend to replace it with?

Removing slate

After I remove the slate from the entry way I will have a professional install hard wood floors.

Thanks,Ray

It's not the most fun job. I've used a long handled ice scrapper. It's a shovel handle with a strong, flat blade about 6-8 inches wide. Break up slate at one point with hammer, then pry under with a scrapper or other similar tool. It's dusty! and I found the most strenuous part is probably shoveling up and carting out the broken up slate/mortar.
