Framing about a beam/duct with metal?

I've gotten pretty good at framing the walls with metal 2x4 and track, but am curious if I can use it to frame around an I beam and hvac ductwork.

Is this possible? If so, what is the proper way to construct it?

Thanks.

Use 1 5/8 framed like short walls.

What do you mean? Do they make 1 5/8 metal? I've only seen 2x3 and 2x4.

Yes you can use it, I would use 2x2 metal angle for the corners and 7/8ths metal furring channel(sometimes called hat channel) for the studs.

You will save yourself a few inches of headroom.
