securing sole plates between brick/joists

I am looking to frame a wall just on the inside of a brick exterior wall (I have stripped the wall of plaster and need to frame out to attach drywall). In places the ceiling/floor joists which run parallel to the exterior wall are several inches from the brick. Thus my question is how to do I secure the sole plates without 1) a joist or 2) two joists to fashion a bridge

Do you have a rim joist on the outside edge? If so, short blocking at right angles to the joists between the last field joist and the rim joist and 16 inches apart would give you the needed support.
