Code for nailing framing?
Here in NJ we're under IRC 2001. Where can I find the proper info on nailing per code? For example: what size, how many nails, configuration, etc. for nailing studs to plates. That sort of thing...

This was taken from the 2003 International Building Code. Your local area may have adopted a different version, or have their own regulations; definitely check with your building department to avoid costly mistakes.

I just used 16d common on all my framing & 8d for sheathing. I asked a structural engineer if that was ok & he said no problem. I did not like the idea of changing nails in my framing nailer every 2 minutes. I doubt an inspector will check your nail sizes.

I used 16d most of the time, too. But I did have to revert to smaller nails for toenailing studs... 4 16d nails tend to split the stud.
The inspector on my last project did not check nail size, but did check spacing and number of nails. The inspector on the job previous to that one didn't even check nailing at all (well, maybe very quickly in his head).
