oak floor squeak
I have noticed one defined area in front of the hall door where the oak floor board squeaks when stepped on, probably a 8 inch by 8 inch area. Since the subfloor was all screwed/glued when installed twenty years ago, I have a feeling it is the oak that is moving, possibly due to humidity, not sure. Is there a way to fix this if in fact it is the oak? I will be checking to make sure it is not the subfloor but just by stepping on the oak area which seems to feel movement, I think it is the oak. Any suggestions or remedies will be appreciated.

Try sprinkling a little talcum powder, (yours, not your wife's expensive stuff) in the offending area and sweep it around a little, vacuuming it up after you walk on it a time or two. The powder is so fine that it will find its way into the joints, where it is obviously rubbing and actually lubricates it.
