Installing HardiBacker Board on wood

Hi,
I am in the process of installing new floor in the kitchen and living area. I am planning to install ceramic tiles. I have remove my vinal floor and also removed plywood and planning to insatll backerboards. Can I install Hardibacker board screwed directly on wood(This is bare wood) without using cement?. I read the instruction on backerbard manufacturer they recommend to use cement. Does any body can give suggestion?

Thank you

What type and thickness subfloor do you have on top of your joists? You will want at least 5/8".

You need to apply thinset to the bottom of the CBU and subfloor. This is to prevent air pockets or soft spots in the floor. You also screw down the CBU as well.
