Connecting a 2x8 joist to 2x4's in a wall
I'm building a room in my garage.
I'm going to build a platform so that it will be even w/ the rest of
the house. The platform will be about 1 foot off the ground.
The room size will be about 11x14.
Here's the problem/question...
The 2x8 joist on the 14' wall closest to the house will screw into the
2x8 foundation of the house.
The 2x8 joist of the far 14' wall can only connect to 2x4's.
So, when I put the 2x8 up against the wall to be nailed in there are about 11 available 2x4 in that 14' range that it can be nailed into. How can
I connect this?
Someone suggested using 1/4" x 4" lag bolts...
thanks for any help.
I hope this explaination makes sense.

Bolts are one way to go. If you have an extra 2" of foundation wall inside the frame wall, as many garages do, you could just nail the 2 x 8 and place small bearing blocks underneath to bear on the foundation. Even easier might be to run the joists right into your frame wall, alongside the studs, nail them, then cut small jack blocks to fit between the bottom wall plate and the joist to carry the load. You might want to then put nailing blocks for your subfloor between the new joists all along that particular wall.

I would just lag a ledger onto the 2x4 wall and use hangers to install the joists. Use 3/8 x 3 inch long lag bolts (3 to a 2x4) to attatch the ledger. Much like a deck ledger gets attatched to a home. The ledger would be a 2x8 of course.

tapcons woud be easier
A tapcon screw would alot easier to install than using anchors and lag bolts

Just to be clear, this will not longer be used as a "garage", correct?
