What to use to sand down subfloor

I am putting in laminate and need to flatten my subfloor.

I have raised the low spots, now I need to lower the high spots. In some areas I will probably need to sand off 1/4-3/8 of an inch.

What would be best to do this job?

Power planer, belt sander,...

Careful, easy to take off too much.

Rent a commercial floor sander w/36 grit belt- that should do the trick.
