Almost all framing lumber is a little longer than the stated length, with the exception of precut studs, which are always an exact length.
Be glad they aren't shorter than 12'.

It's the sole plate. I thought maybe all them eighths were gonna add up to some framing trick. thanks

Gives you a little room to "square" off the ends, as we all know, the factory end cuts are never even close to being square.

From the factory,they come running out at pretty fast pace...
they leave a little extra....
So you can,have enough room to cut a better square end,if you need a better square end....
So....be glad it isn't short.....
It's really tough trying to stretch that stuff......
