Window Headers for 2 x 6 Walls

Any suggestions for constructing a header for windows on an exterior 2x6 wall using 2x10's (engineered and approved). I have a general idea of sandwiching blocks of 1/2" OSB and 2x6 blocks but want to make sure before I proceed to frame them in.

Also how small can the upper cripples be above the header to accomodate a 9-foot framed wall?

I use 3 pcs of 2X dimensional lumber with 1/2" ply sandwiched. For me it's quicker than cutting spacer blocks.

I don't think there is any limit on the length of cripples above a header, but when the space gets smaller than 3" or so, I just lay 2Xs flat above the header to fill the space. Again because it's quicker than cutting (and trying to nail) a bunch of short blocks.
