Smile hardwood over particle board-HELP!

I am planning on installing 5" wide t/g bolivian walnut and rosewood 3/4" throughout my hous, and have discovered my subfloor is particle board! my house was build early 70's and currently carpeted W/W. any suggestions on minimal plywood subfloor needed? have read anywhere from 1/2" to 5/8". Which will give me less warping? also , this is all over a dirt crawlspace. any specific vapor barrier needed? The manufacture recomendation is for 15# roofing paper. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated!

Have you checked to see if there is anythng between the joists and the particle board? I removed an oak floor once and there were 5 layers of different flooring between the oak and the joists.

Probably 3/4 plywood is thick enough. I'm not sure about the vapor barrier.
