Adding a door framing questions

hello all
I am in the process of trying to add a door between our bedroom and bath room and I understand the concept of framing but now that the wall is partially opened I have a few questions..

I do not seem to have a top plate (vaulted ceiling) and the part of the wall that I would consider the top plate is 30 inches from the highest part of the ceiling and 4 inches short of the next stud..
see pic

should I just add a 2x4 to the stud that runs to the ceiling and add a 2x4 to the bottom of what looks like the top plate to make up the 4 inches then frame the opening from there.

it needs to be framed, a 2x4 from floor to ceiling, then a header installed at the height of your ,rough opening on the door.then a stud beside, the other stud, up to the bottom of the header, the first is a king stud the second is a jack stud. the deader, needs to be no less a 2x8. with cripple studs, from the top of it to the ceiling. same thing on the other side of the opening
