Steel beam estimate
I would like to calculate the size of a steel I-Beams with a span of 20 feet for a two story residential house. The second floor is actually a double dormered finished attic. The beam will carry the second floor (finished attic) 40 psf live and 20 psf
dead plus the load of the ceiling and roof. I would like to just support it with two columns one on either end with the load carried directly on top of the steel beam in the basement. Also any other reccomendations maybe for a LVL or a glulam will be appreciated.

helllo,
you didn't get any replies because 1) you didnt provide enough info and 2) the folks here prefer not to size beams for diy'ers especially steel. i see these posts come and go plenty of times, it is something better left to a local professional in your area, and i'm surprised no one at least said that.
with that out of the way, give me some dimensions and a somewhat detailed description of what this thing will carry and i'll get you close.
