Building stairs - Question.

Ok I need to replace my stairs going to the basement. I have a total rise of 51.5" from finished floor down to the basement slab which will eventually be carpeted. I have determined that for 6 threads I need a rise of 7 3/8" with a thread of
10 1/2". Where I need help - Are all the cuts the same? I will need a hanger board attached to the stringers which will be attached to the joist. Do I fasten it to the joist at 8 3/8" below the finished floor so once the thread goes down I'm back to a 7 3/8" rise? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,

John

Stringer

Cut the rise for the bottom tread at 6 3/8 and all others at 7 3/8, which will lower all the treads including the top one.

wirepuller,

thank you, thank you and thank you. My stringers are cut and in place with temp threads for now. Everything is nice and level. One more question though, how far should I extend my skirt board past my bottom riser? Thanks and once I'm done I'll post some pics.
