loud cracking
"i heard a loud crack--in the middle of the night of course--and assuming it was the outside electric box ignored it as it had happened before but then i noticed what appeared to be a water stain on the ceiling below an upstairs bathroom but no drain is nearby where the stain is; at first i thought it was a shadow. A couple of people have said it is not a water stain but a drywall crack (i don't see how it could have made such a loud noise!) caused by the weight of the tub when filled with water and a heavy person bathing but the stain is nowhere near where the tub is--it is in a corner and/or rather perhaps alongside, a aircon/heat duct--and i'm hoping it is not a broken truss or something. the house is now 13years old and i noticed this maybe 1 year ago. i am disabled and cannot get upstairs to crawl into the attic to look for myself so any ideas anyone may have would be appreciated then i can know who to go to for help in fixing the problem.
thank you."

Welcome to the forums!
Water stains will be brown in color.
Could you supply a pic of the ceiling damage? use a free site like Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket
It's doubtfull any issues in the attic would show up between the 1st and 2nd floor.
