weight capacity question

Hi, I am involved in a project at my church which involves the installation of a very large capacity baptistry (walk-in tub) and I need to know what kind of support will be needed to handle approximately 11,000 lbs dispersed over 146 square feet. The floor is constructed of 2 by 8 wood floor joists and I need to determine what additional support will be needed. Please help.

You should probably include the weight of any people as well, if you haven't already.

Suprisingly the numbers you quoted only work out to about 75 psf.

No engineers in the congregation?

weight capacity question

If you are dealing with loads that great, you need an engineer to allow you to keep your wife and first born if there is a problem. - "Act of God" would not be a viable defense in the event of a serious problem even if you donate your labor.

You need a professional to protect the church.

Unfortunately there are no engineers currently in attendance and my numbers for square footage may be off as I am no expert in mathematics. The baptistry measures 11 feet by 4.75 feet by 3.5 feet.

I know that we need an engineer to look at the project as it involves an enormous amount of weight but no one in the congregation seems to know any engineers. If you know of anyone, please tell me. We would love to be able to get this project started. thanks, Jesse

It also depend if the flooring is torn up or if you can get to the crawl space... I would try to use some lvl beams if the girders are 7 feet apart and put them every 2 feet just under where the bath is gonna be they range from 4 to 7 $ a linear foot around here... just my 2 cents
