cantileaver floor

I'm thinking about pushing out the living room floor. Can someone tell me how far over the foundation wall I can cantileaver the floor without additional supports outside?

Floor

What size joists do you have now? 2x10's? What length are the old joists? How far apart are the old joists?

2 x 10's with 16' centers & they're about 12 ft long from the foundation wall to the center beam...still in good shape.

if you have 2x10's 16" oc you could go out 3' in 6' just be sure to nail the new cantilever joists to the old ever 16" and in a 4 to 5 nail per row pattern... I know that we do 2' out and 4' in on 2x8s here so you might check with local codes to be safe

i just saw that youre in canada... if you go out 3' and 6' in or even 8' in you might want to use an enginered lumber like an laminated beam to allow for the heavy snow load I built a house i chicago and they more than double the size of 2x material that we use here so definitly check local codes sorry i should read before i type
