leveling house

hi...i just purchased ahouse that is 104+ years old. the floors are unlevel and the quotes i have gotten to level the house is from $4000 up (one guy even said material was $800, most of which I have and labor was $3200). is there a way that i can do this myself or are they trying to rip me off?

Before you can determine if it's overpriced, you have to know why the floors are not level and what it takes to repair them. My grandmother lived on the top floor of a brown stone in Brooklyn and the floor in the master bedroom was on such a slant, a ball would roll from one end to the other. Are you taking about something like that or are there just some bumps in the floor? What kind of floor is it and how big is it?
