King Stud on BOTH sides of support beam?

The support beam over the new opening in a load bearing wall -- does it need a full lenght stud on both ends or just the jack suds underneath?

Project" Removing part of a load bearing wall over a slab foundation. The new support beam is between an exterior wall and the remaining, intact load bearing wall.

You need a king stud at each end of the beam then the jacks under it.

Thanks. Last question for now... the beam is going to be about 9-1/4" LVL (two of them). Will the number of jack studs probably be 2 under each end or 3 under each end or is that a question that needs a calculated answer?

I always put two jacks under each end of anything over 4'. If the opening is larger than 8' I would go with 3.
