Best to sister or tie together?
I didn't know tieing 2 boards together with a longer board was called sistering but that's what I planned to do. Dad said no, you toe nail. I don't see how toe nailing makes the load rating better. I wouldn't want to stand on it.
I guess there's code for repairs too. I'm in Tn.
Do you sister both sides? I guess I should prop up rafter at least 1/2" just in case there's sagging?
I ripped out the leaky sky light over porch while I repaired shingles from wind damage.
Should I cut the rotten rafter section out in picture or will it rot the new board sooner or later?
There's still some strength left in the rotten section.
I bought some ties but I still don't think they'd be as strong as another longer board.
Thanks

Strip the ceiling covering. I would temporarily support the ceiling joists individually, to make it easy to add more joists. Cut out the bad, replace the whole joist (sister) next to the bad ones, nail together well. I'd cut out the moldy osb and replace that, too. Is it a heated porch? If so, add insulation. Be safe, G

No, it's not heated.
Thank you for reply.
I don't know how many times I've measured at both ends of next rafter to make a snap line to center cut osb. I think I'd be more accurate if I drove 2 nails up beside board and moved over 3/4". I could see me ripping half the roof off before I got center
