Repair rotten stud and sheating
Hello,
As I was replacing a piece of cedar siding, I found out that there has been some water damage underneath. The sheating was not in great shape, so i scraped it and now I have a hole in it (4 in by 4 in approx). I could also see that the stud it is attached to has some damage as well.
I was planning to sister the stud. I have never done that. I am assuming that the sister stud does not have to be the length of the original stud but just go something like 10 in above and 10 in below the problem area - please let me know if I am correct.
I was also planning to install a small piece of new sheating over the existing sheating.
Does that make sense?
Thx.
