Need to cut my top plate
I hope you guys can help:
I think I will have to cut my top plate. I have a house that is only about 6 1/2 feet tall. I am rasing the roof with collar ties. I want to put a full size door in (the place where the large window is in the picture), but I will have to cut my top plate because the door wil be about 6 inches above my top plate.................any framing suggestions to make this work?
Thanks guys

Other than you can't cut your top plate, can't think of one. The top plate is what your roofing system is sitting on. Cut it and the rafters will fall. What is your plan to raise the roof?

I'm having a hard time visualizing what you are planning or even what you are describing. Do you mean that you have a house with 6 1/2' ceilings and you are raising the ceiling by installing collar ties on the rafters to act as cathedral ceiling joists?
What size is the rough opening for your existing door? Is your door in a bearing wall? If it is it will take some framing changes to raise the door height. You could probably header off the affected rafters and add some sort of dormer over the doors to get the height you want.
