Beam spacing

Beam spacing
I am planning to build a 12 X 24 shed that I wish to have the floor to be 21 inches off the ground. I want the top step of a 3 step stringer and the floor to match.
I plan to use 2x6 for the beams and the floor joists.
I also plan to use 4x4 placed in the ground 2 feet deep to hold the beams.
I am going to try to insert a picture that shows how it will be done hopefully!
What I want to ask is the spacing on the 4x4's and beams. Now the picture ain't perfect (I hate paint)(the program) but 2 of the 4x4's will be at the outside edge of the beams that will run 24 feet. How close together do the rest need to be? Every 6 feet or 8 feet? And will I need 3 sets of beams or 4 sets?
The floor joist will run the 12 foot and there will be 19 of them on 16 inch centers.
I think I can cantilever the joists 2 feet on each end.

Well it seems I do not understand how to insert my picture. I have Photobucket and it has 4 choices..Email & IM...Direct link...HTML Code...and IMC code. None of which matches the URL Address that it says I need in the how to post pictures I found in the search. Oh well it was a very crude picture anyhow!

Ben, you've uploaded it to photobucket. Hover over the picture and the dropdown will give you those options. Click on the IMG code, and it will say "copied". Then come back to your post and click on the picture icon above where you normally type a reply. A little box will show up. CTLV in that box, backspace over the [IMG] on the right and delete the [IMG] on the left and hit enter. Pix will magically show up on your post.
Until we see the pix, if you have a beam on either long edge, you will need another one in the middle. 2x6 can't span 12' without support. Neither can your beams. You should have support for them every 8' or so. Now, to eliminate the use of the beam, you could use 2x8 lumber, achieve the span you need at the 12 length and support the entire thing on poured pads in the corners (level, of course) and in the middle of the two 2x8's for the rim joist. Only difference is, I see you want it 21" off the ground. Use 6x6's at each of the 6 pads (7 if you put one in the middle) with the proper Simpson base and joist ties.

Thanks Chandler for the picture help. Why do you suggest 6x6 over 4x4 if it is only supporting a single 2x8 (bearing on it) a 4x4 is twice as wide and a 6x6 is even more.
I am still thinking of setting the post in the ground as the location is not accessible by truck and no water available without carrying it in buckets. Plus since this is a pay job I can install the posts and the joists all the same day.
I am attempting the post of the image now....http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...yeben/deck.jpg
Well I think I messed up on the picture again..
If I use 4x4 and notch it to accept the joist would that be ok? Rather than the simpson.

Dad rat it !!! The CTLV you mentioned does not show for me so I tried adding it but I don't think it worked. All I get is http:// before I put anything in the box.

Ben, we got it. CTLV is Ctl button and "V". That is "paste". Then remove the bracketed IMG stuff on either end, hit enter, and you're there.
6x6's for stability. I don't bury wood except for fences. I'd pour footings install a post base and the 6x6 on top of it.
