hall floor sinking
The floor in my hallway, right outside one of my bathrooms, started sinking 8 or 9 months ago. At first I thought it was the foundation shifting again, but since then it has progressed so that there is a solid inch or inch and a half of space between the baseboard and the floor. This weekend, my son discovered that a drain valve was broken in the tub, and the water was apparently draining into the foundation instead of the sewer line. He fixed the valve but what is strange is he said there is dirt under my tub instead of concrete. The house was built on a concrete slab in 1954 and the tub is the original. We don't know if for some bizarre reason the tub was seated down into the slab, or how dirt would be under the tub. I have two questions. One, will the floor rise back up on it's own now that the leak is fixed? Two, any idea why there would be dirt under the tub instead of concrete and should I be concerned about that?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Welcome to the forums! With what your son found, it appears the concrete slab was undermined and dirt found its way to the surface of your floor under the tub. With 1 1/2" gap in a concrete floor, it seems like a major issue. They don't fix themselves. Yes you should be concerned. How did he discover there was dirt under the tub?
