Joist Sistering Question
All,
I have a cracked joist in my basement that appears to have cracked as a result of being dry (there is a wood stove immediately below this joist that was used as a pirmary source of heat in the winter).
I'm considering sistering the joist, but I have a couple of issues with it. The crack is fairly long, and for part of the joist, I only have access to one side. There was a wall built around a portion of the basement to help support a fireplace that was added to the house later.
Behind this wall, there is flooring and additonal joists, so this is not the edge joist on the home. It also looks like there is another joist quite close to this one, I'm not sure if it was added to address the cracked joist or not.
Would sistering a portion of this joist (or just one side?) with cutouts help anything? Is sistering the joist needed since the other joist is about 5-6 inches away?
First photo: shows the entire corner from a distance
second photo: shows the distance of one joist that is close to the cracked jost
Third photo: shows the cracked joist directly above the stove
final picture: shows the cracked joist as it extends over the wall that was built later on when the fireplace was added
Thanks!

That joist looks like it was defective when it went in years ago.
Only way to fix it right would be to pull all those wires back and sister one full length with construction adhesive and lots of nails.
What's that PVC line running to? Notice the sag in it from the heat and lack of support?
Your insurance man would flip if he ever saw that piece of tile board on the ceiling instead of fire code sheetrock.
