Should this beam be supported ?

I have this beam (2 slapped together) that runs along the right side of my stairs leading the the basement at each end of it there is a double beam the run from the top of the main support beam across to the foundation which is to the left side of the stairs.

pics aren't the greatest. My main question is should the beam have studs between the basement floor and it for support. Seams like the beams that wrong along each end are double because they support that beam. But I don't see any brackets or anything more than a couple nails attaching them together. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forums! Your pictures didn't show up. You may be using TinyPics or some other site. Try this to get them posted. http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html Also give us the dimensions of your beams and height of support, etc.
