Unhappy Repairing cracked floor joists
I have 2 floor joist in basement that have cracks coming off a couple of knots. Can i cut some 3/4 or 1" plywood to cover the problem. I would use glue and screws and bolts. But what is the best way. I would like to put another 2x10 but do not have room (water lines and electric cables).

Usually it's a good idea to sister on a matching joist.

How wide/long are the cracks? It isn't uncommon for framing lumber to have cracks in it. pics would be nice.

Question has come up in the past, and the recommendation was to shore up the joists with a metal plate through bolted if you can not sister another joist.

Cracks in joist
Am having trouble with pics...but trouble is around knots with holes drilled near by for wriing. would love to put metal plates in joists..would be easier than a 2x10 that is 4ft to 8or10ft long. Was going to use metal bolts with screws anyway.

You need to resize your pictures in order to upload them to the web. Scale them down until they upload. There are several free programs to help you accomplish this. Then upload them one at a time.
