Frame pocket door

Could someone explain or point me to a good reference that illustrates how to frame a pocket door? The photos I've found aren't that great. I don't want to have to buy a pocket door kit.

Thank you!

Good morning.
Only actually installed one but it was the same as a regular door, just twice as wide as the final opening. Is this an inside partition wall or load bearing? Is there any electrical on the pocket side? Is the wall ex4 or 2x6?

Once you determine it will be possible, then all of the dimensions should come with the particular door. Might be online as well.

Not buying the kit is usually a mistake. How you build it droends on 2x4 or 2x6. 2x6 is always better. Johnson hardware is best. No time to explain how to build ur own right now.

I also agree with just buying a kit because you will still need the hardware to install the door.

However I can understand trying to save a buck. I suggest going to the big orange store and take some measurements of one that is on the shelf. They are fairly straight forward made out of 2x and 1x material. Here is the one I have used: 30 in. Pocket Door Frame-DFPDI426 - The Home Depot
