which laminate flooring?

I put down vinyl self stick plank flooring about 3 years ago and while it sticks and applies easily, the wear layer is wearing and the vinyl showing through. the box it came in says lifetime warranty, but the small print says the actual wear layer warranty is only one year. looking around I see a lot of laminate floors both vinyl stick down planks or laminate floating floors have the same warranty. I was wonder if anyone knows what to look for in a laminate floating floor or a brand name for the product that has a good surface layer warranty? thanks

frank

What brand did you buy? It's my understanding that any oft he name brands should not ware through to the decorative surface. In fact that is part of the beauty of it. As lifted from another web site..." Most laminate flooring warranties will cover the following:
  • It will not stain
  • It will not wear through to the decorative design surface
  • It will not fade from sunlight whether direct or indirect
  • It will not have any manufacturing defects

"From Carpet One web site: " Gloss reduction is not considered surface wear. Surface wear must be readily visible, approximately 1/2 square inch or greater "

Clearly the gloss has worn off. Not covered under warranty. However, I would call both Lowes and manufacture and complain.

IDK, but I would steer clear of no-name brand or store brands. I would stick with names like Armstrong (also markets Bruce), Tarkett, Shaw, Manington, Prego, etc... I would stay away from Lumber Liquidators brand "DREAM HOME".
