Can someone help with how to hang the joists in this scenario. Does it need more piers? Or this will work -- (yellow) beams transecting elevator wall (blue lines) and then run double 2x12 joists on both sides of the stair entry?
Since there are no footers under your elevator and stair walls I assume those walls are not load bearing. If you very roughly consider your colored lines load paths you'll see that around the stairwell the lines end without support (cantilevered). Generally you don't have cantilevered beams and if you do there is another set of rules how to do it. So, most often you see beams supported at both ends.
Thanks for the help. Here's the spans. Can you explain to me exactly where to add the additional piers to make this right? Or I can email this to you (?). On the left, do I widen the north/south span and have the piers run in front of the elevator and run below it on the bottom? On the right, just squeeze another pier right up against stair wall?
I realize I'm asking a loaded question (pun intended), but I'm about 90% certain on this and could use some help getting over the finish line.
When you enter the house from the garage, the little mudroom area has a closet that is not being utilized. We're going to rip out the wall and put in a big bench/cabinet setup. I pulled down the drywall and before I actually rip the studs out wanted to source feedback.
The first pic is somewhat deceiving - it's actually a view of the closet from the back. The wall with the PEX tubing is the back of the closet and nothing is happening to that one. The wall I'm talking about is behind this one. If you look at the black electrical box in the bottom center of the image, you can see the bottom plate of the wall to be removed in the background. You can follow it from there.
In the second picture, this is a view of the front of the old closet with the drywall removed. The concern I had at first was that there were 2 top plates there, but we have 9' ceilings and it seems like that is pretty standard framing for that height.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello all,new here and need a little input. I have a 2 story house with basement built in 1904. Im wanting to create a doorway into a bedroom from the living room. Through the center of the house is the wall which is loadbearing, I will say it's load bearing, picture a square but a wall down the center is what the 1st floor of house is.The wall is 26 feet in length and the door placement will be approximately 4 feet or so from the one end. Im just wondering with removal of one stud to create the door do I need to angle in supports till im done or is the removal of that stud going to matter while I put in header and jack studs? Thank you.
