Hello.
I'm going to be installing a new coretec vinyl plank fake wood floor in my kitchen. I recently moved my island in the kitchen and cut out the peeling linoleum from around the island. I also made a channel for an electric wire to connect under my Island. I'm guessing this needs to be filled and leveled out so that it's even with the existing linoleum. A little bit of Google and I came up with feather finish cement based filler. I never used it before but I'm just wondering how well it will stick to a different surfaces that are needing to be filled. Also the channel for my electric wire is about a half-inch deep.
will feather finish Bond and not break apart over time underneath the new vinyl plank floor? I was also thinking maybe I could use Bondo Filler instead of feather finish.
when I fill the electric wire Channel I was planning on stapling the wire to the subfloor to secure the wire.
Are you saying you wouldn't even bother with a filler? I am kinda set on using filler. Just was unsure what'd be stronger without breaking over time. It is a low traffic area but still thought it should be filled. Incase it lines up with the edge of a plank or something funny like that. Thanks for your reply.
Hmmm, not sure having that electrical wire under the flooring is good, someone else will chime in, but if me, I would move it so it came up in the cabinet!
It does come up inside the cabinet. It's just that the cabinet used to be over top of where the wire was so it didn't need the channel but since I moved the base cabinet I channeled it out so the wire is below grade of the floor. What problem do you foresee with the wire
Gotcha. I'm confident in the electrical situation and believe repair won't be necessary but either way the floor sits on a slab so I'm betting all that it'll work out. Thanks
There is no need to imbed the electrical wire in and kind of filler. In fact you want the electrical wire to have some give for if and when you need to move or service the unit.
Haha mark, I hope that's not the case, but norm, I only wanna fill with filler because I want the vinyl planks to be on a solid surface. Or is it such a small spot that I can float the plank over it
This house is off ground so the top and bottom of the porch consists of wood beams. Right now there are temp studs holding the porch up. If I want to use 8x8 posts and then wrap them in hardie, what is the preferred way to secure the posts to the upper and lower beams while also satisfying any building codes? There are a bunch so cost is a factor. I see 8x8 post bases are almost $100 each. Could I simply use a 12" or 16" 12 gauge strap at the top and bottom? Do I need a continuous strap? Thanks.Read More
I have a 12x12 kitchen down to studs. I also tore out the top layer of subfloor(particle board). I have a 1/2” dip running right through the middle of it. I bought self leveling compound but am hesitant. The 1/2” plywood subfloor that I would be pouring it on flexes. Which I assume would crumble the SLC. Could I use roofing felt since I am going over the top with more plywood? Is 1/2” too much for felt paper? Am I right that self leveling compound would be a disaster? Any other ideas?
thanks a lot!Read More
