Framing with 2x3's

I am making a short partition wall in basement- Basically going to install a few bifold doors in the wall for some shelving. Can i use 2x3's instead of 2x4's? I am not installing any outlets or switches

Sure. But if you are using wood jambs for the bifolds you would need to use solid wood jambs since you will need to rip them down to 3 9/16".

Your bottom plate needs to be pressure treated. Fasteners that go into it need to be ACQ approved. That includes your 2x3 to bottom plate connection.

thanks- I figured- Yes using pressure treated- i guess the bigger concern here is that the bifold doors will most likely be too tall for the basement. I am guessing they can be shaved down for size.....

Bifolds require a finished opening of 80-81". Most basements have enough height.
