Remove the bed from a sofa bed

hello. has anyone out there successfully removed the bed from a sofa bed? we never use the lousy bed and it just adds weight to the sofa that is not needed. I imagine supports would need to be put in place and some type of plywood or something else to serve as the plae to rest cushions on. just looking for any advice

thanks

Joe

if the actual removal of the bed mechanism is the problem , fear not . it's not a big deal . you will probably need to stand the unit up on end , as in the unit will be standing 6 or 7 feet tall . the screws or bolts that secure the mechanism to the couch will be located on the ends of the mechanism , near the arm assemblies . loosen the fasteners , and " maneuver " the bed mechanism out thru the bottom of the couch .

yes , you will need to modify the remainder of the couch to provide support for the cushions . that doesnt need to be extravagant . maybe 3 or 4 rails , running front to back , with 3/4 inch plywood over the rails . you may want to consider having a small upholstery shop adding foam / cover to the plywood before you secure it . without the foam , the couch will sit a bit on the hard side .
