leg position on dining table

Have a rectangle table, mahogany f rom the 30's, has to sets of legs at each end, each set has three legs coming out at angles.....I have been told they are on backwards, the long leg in each set should face in towards the center, not towards then end; who ever took the top off to transport it did not put the leg assemblly on correctly. Anyone familiar with this type of vintage leg pattern (very common I guess back in the 30's and 40's) know if what is being told to me is correct? I did notice that with the straight leg pointing towards each end that it does stick out just a little.........maybe the guy is right since if the leg faces in, more support towards the middle of the table.......but, there must be a right and wrong way.

A picture or two would help us help you. Can you post a couple of pictures? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/li...-pictures.html

Have you tried searching Google Images for a similar table?

re: leg position

No, I did not search or pictures, the double pedestal leg was so common on dining room furniture years ago and I thought someone that had worked with furniture would know what they look like and know how the legs should look like when installed on each end of the table.
