How to make storage organizer shelf more stable for fish tank??

I have a 4-cube storage organizer that I want to put a small fish tank on (5 gallons), but I’m worried that it’s not quite sturdy enough for a tank. I know that they sell fish tank stands but I would much rather work with what I already have because it would probably be cheaper and I don’t need more furniture. If I push down on the organizer it feels sturdy, but the issue is when I try to move it side to side. It pretty easily wobbles about an inch in either direction. Is there a way to stablize this while also having it still look aesthetically pleasing?

Here is an image of a similar organizer (might even be the same one I own): https://www.target.com/p/4-cube-orga...30#lnk=sametab

Welcome to the forums!
If you attach plywood to the back it will stiffen it up a good bit.

Yes, the plywood marksr will work as will almost any solid sheeting including paneling and masonite. Many flat pack shelving units don't use much more than heavy duty card stock/masonite but it's enough to provide a lot of rigidity.

A 5 gallon tank should only weigh 50 lbs but you are probably buying some ultra cheap partical board unit made in China,

Chances are if you can sit on it and it doesn't collapse you are good or maybe look for something a little more robust.

Sometimes cheap can be expensive!
