Reclining sofa repair
We have a reclining sofa that I think the brand name might be Lane? The two outside seats on it recline by reaching down between the cushion and the armrest area and grabbing a handle. You pull up on the handle to make the footrest come out and the seat recline. I did that today and the handle broke off in my hand. I guess I don't know my own strength! The sofa is seven years old and out of warranty. On the end of the handle is a plastic cord that goes down into a plastic tube which is between the cushion and the armrest. The plastic cord is where it broke. The other end is down inside that tube. Any thoughts on how I might fix this will be appreciated.

You just need to replace the cord. Surprisingly, finding good quality cord is the hard part. If you flip the couch over and remove the dust cover on the bottom you will have access to the mechanism.

I'm glad you ordered some cord. I've tried using the "para cord" available at my local home center and it was garbage. Stretched way, way too much and gave the lever a very spongy feel. I ended up ordering some Spectra cord used on spear gun fishing lines and that has worked well and lasted 4 or 5 years so far.
