diluting stain?
I'm just curious - if I diluted a stain would it lighten the colour?Would I use paint thinner, mineral spirits? Any idea how much would make any difference?

Oil base stains are diluted by ading paint thinner (mineral spirits is the same thing). You'll get the same color, but a lighter shade. How much you use depends on the amount of pigment in the original stain as well as how much lighter you want to go - it's trial and error all the way.
