32 yr. old stained paneling

I have asked at several Home Depots, paint stores and no one has been able to help. I have a room of paneling that was stained natural wood. and would like to redo to look like light gray with dark gray grains. How do I do this? If I paint it, it will be solid gray. I want the grain to show in a darker color. They told me it was ash. Would appreciate your help. Thank you

If it's really solid wood and not that cheap junk that was used by the mile in the 70's, you might have to strip it, bleach it, and sand it to get it light enough to do any good.

McClosky has a line of stains that give color tints to wood, You might look into that.

Another possibility would be a faux paint finish.
