Unhappy Dining room table

I am refinishing an oak dining room table and am wondering what kind of finish would be durable and safe? Would a tounge oil be safe and durable?
Thanks Bruce

100% tung oil is a good finish. It is easily renewed periodically by applying another coat. Other finishes don't usually allow such easy renewal. It is durable, especially for a surface such as a dining room table. Once cured, it is safe for food contact. This is true of all modern finishes.

There are many other finishes available: varnishes, polyurethane varnishes, lacquer, and paint.

Hope this helps.
