Finishing a Table

My wife and I have just purchased a new kitchen table made of Alder. The tableís top is really pretty and I was thinking about finishing it with tung oil. Iíve witnessed tung oil finished pieces in the past and have always liked them. A friend told me that tung oil attracts dust and that I should apply a coat of wax over top of the oil. First is this a good finishing method and second, what kind of wax will I need to use? And finally once I apply the wax what kind of future maintenance will I need to perform? ThanksóMarc

100% pure tung oil will dry to a hard finish. Wax may enhance the appearance or facilitate the cleaning in the same way it does any other piece of furniture, but is not otherwise necessary. Johnson's paste wax is a good wax for furniture.
