Teak Wood

At the building I work at we have several benches, planters, and trash recepticals made out of teak. What if any treatment do these need to weather properly in the outdoors?

Left to itself, teak will weather to a pretty gray outdoors.

I've heard that but also have heard that it needs to be oiled.

Teak is naturally oily. Oiling the wood is another approach to maintaining its original color, which will be difficult in the sun and rain.

Boat owners have to refinish the teak on the boats periodically to maintain the color and finish of the original wood. Finishing teak is tricky because the oil has to be removed from the surface long enough to apply a finish.
