mixing red and white oak

We have white oak hardwood floors and red oak stair treads (not our plan, but what we have to work with). Is there a stain or technique for matching or should we instead go for a "we designed it to look different look?".

Depending upon the stain used, there may not be much difference. After all, the treads and the floor don't meet. Subtle differences won't be apparent.

As far as matching any clarity in the white oak against the natural coloration of the red oak is concerned, you will have the differences. Consider it a feature, not a flaw.

Hope this helps.
