blonde furniture refinishing

How do I restore a Dixie blonde bedroom set. Can I paint this white? Can I restore the newness of the blonde finish? How do I know what kind of wood I have under the finish? Help me!

Loree:
Wipe the top of teh piece with a rag wet with paint thinner. If you like what you see when the surface is wet, yes the blonde look can easily be restored - sand lightly and apply a coat of lacquer, either brush or spray on - the spray on will give you a LOT more control.
The only way to determine what wood is under teh finish is to look at it and compare it with various pictures of wood. The website below haspictures of various woods.

Yes, you can paint the piece white. Sand completely (don't don't have to remove the old finsih, just rought it up, then prime with BIN (2 coats, sanding after each has dried), then apply the finish paint of your choice.
