I would like to know how to paint over a dresser ,headboared and nightstand without stripping or sanding over varnish.

It is helpful to clean the piece before starting to remove all the grease, grit, grime, and wax that tends to accumulate on a piece of furniture over time. Scrubbing it with a coarse cloth dampened with mineral spirits will do this. Scrub the piece until the cloth comes away clean. The proceed as directed otherwise to knock down any sheen with a green scotchbrite pad, then apply the primer and paint.

Hope this helps.
