Making a Picnic Table into a Dining Table?
I'm not sure if this is where I should put this question, but I am planning to turn my picnic table into a dining room table to go with my cottage / shabby chic decor. My question is this:
How do I refinish the table so that we don't get splinters in our bottoms and so that our dishes lay flat?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sand the surface smooth and paint to keep splinters out of the way. If the top is so irregular that the dishes don't sit still, sanding it flat or planing it flat should solve the problem.

Cottage / shabby chic, that's brave.
If you'll use an oil paint or seal the wood with anything other than latex paint, first let the table acclimatise indoors for a week, else bubbles.
