we currently square top newels in our "new" home. http://************/4uwpw I would like to replace the "ball" rails with curved ones like in the other picture. I have seen the materials at Home Depot but can anyone tell me how I do this? Thanks! I would also like to stain the bannister and posts a walnut color what is the best stain to use for this? Thanks!!!

You have square top newel posts and want to replace the ball rails. From looking at the website for your staircase, I would recommend talking to the original installer. It seems that the newel posts are one piece.

Stained new stools - too orange :(

Hi, I just redid my kitchen with maple cabinets. The final project is to stain three bar stools in a similar maple stain. I stained one of them with colonial maple. The first coat was fine, but I felt it was too light so added a second coat of stain. Now it is too orange. Is there anyway to tone it down a bit or is all lost? I am moving into a new home, and one room has extensive wooden pannelling tat has been painted gloss white. I am planning on stripping this off and seeing what the wood underneath is like. The seller told me it was painted because the wood was stained with a dark colour. If this is the case, can I restain it a lighter colour, or do I need to remove the dark stain first?
