Cracked Corble

I have two carved corbels under the fireplace mantle made from a big pine log. The wood was apparently not dried sufficiently and one of them has checked something fierce. Is there a way of patching the crack that would have a chance of not looking like a repair? Finish is a light colored stain and polyurethane.

You maybe able to use colored putty to fill in the cracks. If the cracks aren't too large and you get the right color putty [may need 2 or more colors] it should make the cracks disappear, then recoat with poly.

After applying and sanding a wood filler I would apply a single coat of polyurethane and allow to dry overnight.

I then use artists oil colors to 'fake in' the color of the surrounding wood. These colors can be applied by trial and error - mistakes can be 'erased' using a rag and paint thinner until you have it right. Allow to dry and finish with additional coat(s) of poly.
