tung oil and stain

i was wondering i used formbys tung oil on a small area of wide pine flooring after i resanded but it is not dark enough to match the rest. can i apply a stain over that such as a MINWAX, and then use the tung oil for a finish again?? i only put one coat of tung oil down so far.

You will need to remove the tung oil so that the stain can take in the wood. Then apply a finish.

You can try staining and then topping with some polyurethane. Scuff sand the area with 220 grit sandpaper, thin the mix 10% with mineral spirits, and brush on a LIGHT coat of poly (after staining and drying). Let it dry and decide whether you want a second coat. Will look fine--

BTW tung oil is usually a scam (even if it's made by a major brand). 90% of tung oil finishes have NO tung oil even in them. They are just a cheap oil/varnish blend and aren't any better than thinned polyurethane (or "wipe-on poly"). Just FYI
