mahagony door in need of help

I had a new door saddle put in for my outside mahagony door. However, the when the rain hit the newly placed concrete summer '05, it splashed on my whole door and stained it. Some people are telling me that sanding and polyeurathane will only make the wood look worse, as it will enhance the unwanted stain. They argue that the best you can do, is find a similar color wood stain. Others say that it CAN be sanded out. Does anyone know the definitive answer RE: this before I ruin this door any further???

I assume the door is new and unfinished. Any time wood is stained from water it will affect how it will stain. Most times times the water spots can be sanded out. It all depends on how deep the stain went.

If the door already had a finish on it, it shouldn't be that hard to fix. Have you tried washing the spots off? A light sanding should take the spots of if there is a good coat of poly protecting the door.

hope this helps
