Unhappy Lightening walnut wood

I have been given a beautiful walnut dressing table and chest of drawers, but they look odd in my bedroom which has antique pine pieces in it. Could I lighten the walnut to make it more pine like? How would I do it?

Thanks so much,
Indrani Andon

indraniandon, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
If the wood is just the natural color, I do not believe you would be able to lighten it. If the sealer used on it is something like oil based varnish, it may have added to the darkness through "yellowing". Water based Poly and varnish don't do this. Watch this post for our resident experts opinions and good luck.

Only pine looks like pine. Walnut looks like walnut. These pieces won't match unless they are painted. Just enjoy the eclectic nature of your collection.
